IRANIAN CHESS PLAYER DORSA DERAKHSHANI WAS TOLD TO WEAR THE HIJAB OR BE BANNED. SHE REFUSED, JOINED THE U.S TEAM AND BECAME A GRANDMASTER AND WORLD CHAMPION

They tried to silence her, so she chose a new country and kept winning.

Dorsa Derakhshani was given an ultimatum by Iranian authorities: follow hijab rules or lose her right to compete.

Instead, she left Iran, joined the U.S. Chess Federation, and continued on her own terms.

What followed was not failure, but success at the highest level.
